Jalapeno & Citrus Margartia

 (Recipe makes 2 margaritas)

1/2 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
Juice from 4 limes
Juice from 1 orange
Zest strips from 1 orange
Zest strips from 1 lime
2 jalapenos, sliced (I like spicy, so I left the seeds and ribs in, but if you want it a little milder just remove those)
4 ounces of tequila

Combine 1/2 of the sliced jalapenos, citrus zest, sugar and water in a pot over medium heat. 
Stir until sugar has dissolved and remove from heat.

Let cool to room temperature and strain simple syrup to remove jalapenos and citrus zest.  Next, combine 2 ounces simple syrup, 4 ounces tequila and all of the citrus juice in a shaker and shake, shake, shake.

Fill 2 glasses with crushed ice and pour shaken margarita over each.  Garnish with lime or jalapeno and enjoy!
